Kino Praha became an observer member of NISI MASA – European Network of Young Cinema in April 2012. It was selected during the General Assembly in Zagreb (28- 30 March 2012). We are looking forward for new ways of collaboration on the European level!

Online magazine World Of Shorts – Visegrad Issue

The new issue of WORLD OF SHORTS is here!

The magazine introduces Visegrad Short On Tour’s six selected filmmakers and their films, a Slovak animation that is now Oscar qualified as well as an essay by Zsolt Gyenge, analysing Roman Polanski and István Szabó’s short films, and an interview with producer Ferenc Pusztai about working with debutant filmmakers and Kino movement.

Six short films in search of an audience

Daazo.com takes six short films and their creators on tour in the Visegrad countries. The 1000 euro prize will be awarded to the best film at the closing ceremony, held in Budapest. There will be a panel talk, organised in the framework of the Titanic Festival, where participants will discuss collaboration possibilities in the Visegrád countries.

Daazo.com, the video sharing site supported by the MEDIA Programme of the EU announced a short film competition for V4 filmmakers. More than 120 entries, totalling 1300 minutes, were received before the March 23th deadline. The average age of the the filmmakers whose works were competing was 25. The jury of Daazo.com chose six of these films to take on tour in the four contries, together with their directors.The film contest and subsequent tour have been organised with the support of the International Visegrad Fund.

The “Visegrad Shorts on Tour” travelling short film festival presents the best six shorts of the Visegrád region, and their creators. The aim of the event is to introduce the filmmakers of the four countries to each other so that they can find out about, and offer support in each other’s work, and to show their films to the audience

The tour takes place on the following dates and venues:

2012. April 12., Krakow, 8 pm KINO18 / Klub Pauza
2012. April 14., Prague, 8:30 pm, BIO OKO
2012. April 15., Bratislava, 7 pm, KC Dunaj
2012. April 17., Budapest
11 am: panel talk about the collaboration possibilities in the V4 countries
8 pm: screening, award ceremony and party at the MENTA TERASZ

The panel talk will be held at 11 am on April 17 in the framework of the Titanic International Film Festival, in the café of the Uránia Cinema. The young filmmakers will be discussing collaboration possibilities in the four countries with important experts and decision makers.

At the closing ceremony in Budapest, one of the films will receive the main prize: the 1000 euro Visegrad Shortfilm Award. An audience award will also be given to the film that receives the most votes by the viewers. The winning film will be selected by a jury of acclaimed film professionals, including Ferenc Pusztai, producer and head of KMH Film, Philip Ilson, director of London Short Film Festival and Petr Horák, representing IShorts from the Czech Republic.The screening and award ceremony will be followed by an all-night-long after party.

After the tour, the six shortlisted films and the other competing 120 works can be viewed online on Daazo.com, where the online community can also choose their favourite: the film receiving the most online votes will receive a valuable prize.

The recently renewed Daazo.com is a short film sharing site supported by the MEDIA Programme of the EU that hosts several thousand contemporary shorts. Alongside these recent films, Daazo presents old classics that are not available elsewhere on the Internet. CALL FOR FILMS – Visegrad Shorts on Tour 2012


Win the 1000 euro Visegrad Short Film Award, a projection of your films in the four countries and build your network. A possibility you cannot miss!

Daazo.com opens a call for films for the Visegrad Shorts on Tour event supported by The Visegrad Fund, in cooperation with Kino Praha (CZ), OZ Publikum.sk (SK) and Polishorts (PL). Visegrad Shorts on Tour is a travelling short film festival, introducing the most innovative short films from the region, made by young people under 35. The festival aims to help not yet established young filmmakers to showcase their work to a wider audience, get feedback and network. We also aim to form an audience for short films in the region both offline and online, through a dedicated online platform. The filmmakers will be encouraged to form a regional young filmmakers’ association.

The Visegrad Shorts on Tour will be held between 12th and 18th April in Krakow, Prague, Bratislava and Budapest. Six selected directors will be travelling on the tour and present their films in each country. The winners of the Visegrad Short Film Award and Audience Award will be announced during the Closing Ceremony of the festival in Budapest on 17th April. Daazo.com will hand out three awards: the 1000 euro Visegrad Shortfilm Award, the online competition award and the audience choice award.

Only legal citizens of Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland may submit films to the Visegrad Shorts on Tour competition. Entrants upload their films in a password protected version to Daazo.com, and set the password to “visegrad”, than follow the instructions on the entry form. Entrants may upload more than one film. The films uploaded to the “Visegrad Shorts on Tour” competition should have been produced in 2009 or later, should have English subtitles and the duration of the film should not exceed 20 minutes. Entrants agree to have their film screened in the four countries and that their film will become visible online on Daazo.com for an undetermined period after the projections in the Visegrad countries have taken place.

The deadline for application is 23th March, 2012.
